Education

Our schools are at the heart of our communities, but families are also telling us clearly that the way we pay for education isn’t sustainable. We need to improve affordability without weakening our schools or forcing every community into the same model.

That means protecting what works and changing what doesn’t. We should reduce unnecessary costs, make the system easier to understand, and put more of our education dollars where they belong: supporting students and educators.

School choice is one of the strengths of education in our part of Vermont, and I want to protect it, strengthen it, and make sure it remains available to future generations. Families should continue to have meaningful choices among strong educational options, and communities that rely on town tuitioning should have a system that is stable, understandable, and built to last.

I also don’t believe bigger is automatically better. Rural education shouldn’t be shaped by a one-size-fits-all push toward consolidation. Communities deserve a real voice in what happens to their schools, and students deserve access to the educational options that work best for them.

The question should always be: will this give Vermont children a better education while making the system work better for the families and communities paying for it?
