Good Government & Democracy

Vermonters should be able to trust that public institutions are acting openly, responsibly, and with respect for the people they serve.

That means clear public processes, strong ethics rules, meaningful local input, and better accountability for how public money is spent. It also means making government easier to navigate. People shouldn’t need to be experts just to understand a decision that affects their family, property, school, or community.

Privacy matters too. New technology can help government work better, but it should not come at the expense of basic civil liberties. Surveillance tools, automated systems, and the collection of personal data should come with clear limits, public oversight, and strong protections against misuse.

Good government also means being willing to admit when something isn’t working and fix it. We should measure results, explain decisions clearly, and make it easier for the public to hold elected officials accountable.

Democracy is strongest when people believe their voice matters. State government should earn that trust through transparency, competence, and respect for the communities it serves.
